Fisheries Need Help

The median age of reservoirs in the US is 50, with new reservoir construction currently at a rate lower than in 1890. Aging reservoirs characteristically have increased harmful algal blooms, sediment accumulation, reduced carrying capacities, and loss of fish habitat. To preserve, improve, or even maximize our recreational opportunities we must act now.

participation is increasing

The American Sportfishing Association 2022 report on fishing shows in 2021 17% of the U.S. population ages 6 and up went fishing at least one time, that is 52.4 million anglers across all demographics, ages, and communities. This is the second only highest participation level in 20+ years.

Purpose Brings Consumers

Study after study shows 70, 80, and even 90+% of consumer purchasing preferences lean toward brands and companies that have a purpose, and on average it’s higher when your purpose aligns with their own. Purpose leads to trust, loyalty, and competitive advantage in all sectors.

Collabortation equals Success

Conservation is not done on an island alone; it is most successful in collaboration with multiple groups. Freshwater fisheries issues are often local issues but with social media they gain national recognition. Having knowledgeable and experienced guidance is essential to understanding where, when, and how to create impactful opportunities.

About Black Bass Stewardship Group

BBSG was founded in 2019 by Professional Angler Gary Klein and Fisheries Biologist Steven Bardin. Gary is a legendary angler competing across the country for 40+ years in competitive bass fishing events. He is a co-founder of Major League Fishing, Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame Inductee, and Bass Fishing Hall of Fame Inductee. Steven is a highly regarded private sector fisheries biologist who works daily to improve fisheries across the country. Steven is the founder of Texas Pro Lake Management, a member of the Texas Freshwater Fishing Advisory Committee, a member of American Fisheries Society, and a former professor of fisheries management and conservation.

After collaborating on several volunteer projects together it was obvious to Gary and Steven that fisheries conservation was a shared passion. BBSG is a natural evolution of that passion that provides them the opportunity to bring fisheries conservation projects to communities across the country with brands and people passionate about improving fishing opportunities for future generations.

BBSG is a member of the American Sportfishing Association and maintains an active Friends of Reservoirs Group.
